APC Sweeps Ekiti Council Elections, Wins All Seats

The All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious in Saturday’s council elections in Ekiti, winning all 38 chairmanships and 177 councillorship seats. The Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (EKSIEC) announced the results in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday.

Returning officers from the local government and council development areas presented the results of the various council areas at the EKSIEC headquarters. EKSIEC chairman, retired Justice Cornelius Akintayo, commended the electorate in Ekiti for the peaceful conduct of the election.

Mr. Akintayo also praised the participating parties for their sportsmanship, the EKSIEC staff who worked in the field, security agents, and the media for their contributions to the successful conduct of the election.

The political parties that participated in the election included Action Alliance (AA), Action Democratic Congress (ADC), African Democratic Party (ADP), and the All Progressives Congress (APC). Others were the Labour Party (LP), the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

Notably, prominent opposition parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) had declared their disinterest in the council elections. The presentation of the election results was attended by EKSIEC commissioners and principal officers.
