The Zamfara State Government has successfully reclaimed around 50 operational vehicles reportedly taken by the immediate past governor, Bello Matawalle.

The recovery comes in the wake of a Federal High Court in Sokoto delivering a decisive judgement against bello last Friday.

Governor Dauda Lawal’s spokesperson, Sani Sambo, emphasized that due process was meticulously followed during the retrieval operation from he’s residences in Gusau and Maradun. Matawalle had previously denied any possession of government property upon leaving office.

Sambo clarified, “The Lawal-led administration is committed to state development, not to witch-hunt or tarnish anyone’s image.”

The controversy unfolded when Governor Lawal assumed office on May 29, 2023. Allegations surfaced regarding stolen operational vehicles from the Government House in Gusau and the misappropriation of public funds. Security agencies raided Matawalle’s residences, recovering some of the vehicles.

Facing legal hurdles, the former governor obtained a court order restraining the state government from further action, pending a court decision. However, the court in Sokoto ultimately dismissed Matawalle’s suit, allowing the government to proceed with the recovery.
