The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has dismissed five of its staff members due to corruption charges. Additionally, two other employees were reprimanded for their absence from their assigned posts.
This action follows a similar incident that occurred just a fortnight ago, where 11 staff members faced a disciplinary panel for the same charges.
The Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed on Monday that the five accused officials had received termination letters from the state civil service. He also mentioned that 14 other cases are currently under administrative review by the LASTMA management team.
“While five LASTMA officials indicted for corruption received a letter of termination of appointment, the remaining two received letters of ‘reprimand’ for absence from duty posts without leave.” Adebayo said.

The termination letters were handed over to the five officers on Friday, December 8, 2023. Taofiq added that all recommendations made by the Personnel Management Board regarding the seven indicted LASTMA officials were approved by the Lagos State Civil Service Commission in a meeting held on Tuesday, August 19, 2023.
The Acting General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bakara Oki Olalekan, has urged all staff members to remain diligent in their duties. He emphasized that any staff member found guilty of misconduct would face disciplinary action as per the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations.
Olalekan also encouraged the public to share their experiences with the management, including positive ones, to help improve the agency. He advised road users to adhere to the State Traffic Law to avoid penalties.
He further stated that adherence to the law is crucial for the realization of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s objectives in the First Pillar of the THEMES Plus Development Agenda (Traffic Management and Transportation).
Olalekan assured Lagos residents and motorists that they could report any complaints through various channels for immediate action. He also promised that all complaints would be investigated promptly and impartially.
Lastly, he urged all motorists to comply with the Lagos State Transportation Sector Reform Law of 2018. He also revealed that the cases against the remaining 14 indicted LASTMA officials are still under additional administrative review.
