In a swift response to the unexpected political turmoil, Rivers Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has called for an emergency meeting with members of the state executive council.
According to reports, the crucial gathering is currently underway at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The urgency of the meeting stems from the recent defection of 27 out of the 32 members of the House of Assembly from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
The mass defection introduces a fresh layer of complexity to the ongoing political discord between Governor Fubara and his political mentor, former governor Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
