PDP Initiates Reconciliation Efforts, Eyes Peter Obi’s Return

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has embarked on a mission to reconcile its members, signaling a keen interest in welcoming back the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, for the upcoming general elections later this year.

The PDP, positioning itself for success in the 2027 polls, made a bold declaration yesterday, asserting that a Northerner would not be the presidential candidate of the party in 2027.

The party stalwarts emphasized that to avoid slipping into obscurity, a strategic decision had been made to abstain from endorsing a Northern candidate for the presidential ticket until 2031.

According to the Guardian, the meeting, held at the Lagos office of Bode George, saw the attendance of prominent figures, including chieftains, officers, and mobilizer groups led by the national figure Iteh Ubon.

During the media interaction that followed, Bode George emphasized the perceived limitations of the Labour Party, contending that it lacks the necessary structure to triumph in national elections.

Consequently, he urged Peter Obi to seriously consider rejoining the Peoples Democratic Party, presenting it as a more viable platform for achieving political objectives.

His words: “The Labour Party doesn’t have the root. I have traversed every state in the country, there is nowhere you will not know or hear about our party because it carries the full colour of Nigeria. The LP was a movement; they don’t have a solid root. LP came out of anger, it doesn’t have the kind of root we have. LP is a wind. Where was Obi? We can still talk to him, if he wants to.

“I have nothing against Northerners. In fact, my best friend is from the North, but PDP members must understand this reality before it is too late that a PDP member from the southern part of the country must be our candidate, and we must all support him to defeat the APC candidate in the 2027 elections.

“Until 2031, nobody should think of contesting for the presidential ticket of our party from the North. The real elders in our party should stand up and tell the truth.”
