The Rivers State Assembly Complex is currently undergoing demolition, raising concerns and heightening the political tension between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

The demolition commenced just moments ago, with heavy machinery on-site actively tearing down the building.

The motive behind this unexpected move remains unclear, but it is widely speculated to be linked to the ongoing power struggle between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Earlier today, Rt. Hon. Barr. Ehie Edison, a staunch ally of Governor Fubara, reportedly presided over a plenary session of the 10th Assembly.

This session follows a recent court order affirming Edison as the legitimate Speaker and prohibiting his rival, Martins Amaewhule, backed by Nyesom Wike, from claiming leadership.

The political unrest in the state gained public attention in October when a section of the assembly complex was set ablaze, allegedly by Fubara’s supporters.

The act was purportedly an attempt to thwart impeachment proceedings against the governor. However, the intervention of Bola Ahmed Tinubu ultimately stalled the process.
