‘Public Funds Must Not Be Used for Personal Gratification,’ Obi Urges FG to Prioritise Spending

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, urged the federal government to prioritize spending on critical sectors like education, health, and poverty alleviation. He emphasized that “public funds must not be used for personal gratification but must be invested in the development of our society.”

Obi made these remarks at the Send Forth Celebration for Sr. Ernestina Edoziem, a dedicated school teacher and former principal of Holy Rosary International College, Owerri, Imo State. He praised Edoziem for her tireless work towards the academic excellence, good moral formation, and structural development of the college from 2015 to 2023.

Obi also took the opportunity to celebrate all the unsung heroes of Nigeria’s education sector, especially teachers, who labor for the growth of education in Nigerian society. He reiterated his consistent belief that those who have meritoriously served society, in different capacities, deserve to be celebrated.

He stated, “As I celebrate Teacher Ernestina Edoziem today, I celebrate all the unsung heroes of our education sector, especially teachers, who labor for the growth of education in our Nigerian society.”

Interacting with the students, Obi encouraged them to take their educational and moral formation seriously, as it will open countless doors for them in life. He advised them to avoid all forms of profligacy, even in their later years, and to focus on making society better.

Obi restated his unwavering commitment to investing in projects that will benefit the people and celebrating fellow Nigerians who make positive impacts in society. He envisions a new Nigeria where hard work and excellence reign and productivity is appreciated.

“I restate my unwavering commitment in, not only investing in projects that will benefit the people but in celebrating fellow Nigerians who make positive impacts in society. Gradually, we will build a society where hard work and excellence reign, and productivity is appreciated. That is the New Nigeria we all desire,” he said.
