A man accused of espionage for Israel has been executed in Iran, as reported by the country’s judiciary. The execution took place in Zahedan prison, located in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan, according to the judiciary’s Mizan Online website.
The man, whose identity was not disclosed, was found guilty of cooperating with Israel’s intelligence services and providing them with classified information. His actions were aimed at causing public disorder, as per the charges.
Details about his arrest and trial were not immediately available. Iran has a history of announcing the capture of individuals alleged to be working for foreign countries, including Israel, which is considered a regional adversary.
In December 2022, the country executed four individuals convicted of collaborating with Israeli intelligence services. The two countries, which do not recognize each other, have been involved in covert conflicts for years.

Iran accuses Israel of orchestrating sabotage attacks and assassinations against its nuclear program. Conversely, the U.S. and Israel allege that Iran has used drones and missiles to target U.S. forces and ships linked to Israel in the Gulf.
Human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, report that Iran executes more individuals annually than any other country, with the exception of China. A report released in November by the Iran Human Rights Group, based in Norway, stated that the country had executed over 600 individuals this year, the highest number in eight years.
