The fire, believed to have originated from a spark emitted by a Toyota Dyna truck parked at the station, inflicted damage on part of the petrol filling station.

Prompt action by the state fire service, alerted by passersby, helped in containing and extinguishing the fire, limiting the extent of the damage to the filling station.

Hassan Adekunle, the head of media and publicity for the state fire service, provided insights into the firefighting efforts.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the fire crew encountered a severe and rapidly spreading fire at the Aasco Filling station along Ajase-Ipo road, Ilorin. The firemen immediately commenced firefighting operations to contain the inferno and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the filling station.” He stated.

Adekunle highlighted the success of the firemen in controlling and extinguishing the fire, despite its intensity. The investigation into the incident revealed that a spark from the Dyna truck with Registration number LEM115XB ignited the flammable liquid, leading to the outbreak of the fire.
