The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) chief, Bill Burns, is expected to arrive in Warsaw on Monday to meet with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and the head of Israel’s Mossad to discuss a potential deal to release the remaining hostages held in Gaza.
The last hostage and ceasefire deal saw both sides exchange prisoners briefly before the resumption of hostilities between the two warring parties in Gaza.
Israel has hailed Burns’s diplomacy as the key element in striking an earlier deal with Hamas which saw hostages returned.
High-level talks and unofficial contacts have been made in recent weeks between Israel and Qatar.
Any new deal will require concessions from both parties, as Israeli officials believe that Hamas is stretched and its existence is threatened.
This comes as the Israeli military said it had killed three hostages who managed to flee captivity in Gaza, citing an error from its troops in Gaza as the reason for the fatal accident.
Protests and anger continue to grow in Israel as family members push for the release and return of their loved ones held hostage in Gaza.
About 130 hostages are still being held and kept captive in Gaza by Hamas and other factions.
