In a press conference held in Abuja on Tuesday, the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, addressed concerns over alleged anti-party activities involving former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Damagum firmly stated, “As long as you are a member of the PDP, there is a time for everything… If Wike believes he is above this party, we will be able to show him that he is not above this party.”
Responding to questions about potential sanctions, Damagum emphasized a measured approach, saying, “My duty is to stabilize this party and not to cause a crisis. And I will continue to do that within the confines of reason.”

The chairman hinted at broader actions, asserting, “There are other people who worked against this party. When we get to that level, we will sanction everybody.”
The looming political crisis in PDP-controlled Rivers State also drew attention. Damagum acknowledged the complexity, stating, “We won’t want to plunge our party into another crisis.”
Highlighting a forward-looking strategy, Damagum mentioned the forthcoming 2023 review committee, saying, “They are to review what happened in 2023 and come out with a report… Then after that, we will see what kind of measure to take.” #Wike
