The Rivers State House of Assembly has officially dropped the impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The withdrawal was announced during a session on the House floor, with lawmakers citing respect for the President as the basis for their decision.
This development comes in the wake of a gathering of around 26 lawmakers aligned with former Governor Nyesom Wike at the House of Assembly Complex on Wednesday morning.
The political landscape in the state has been tense due to a power struggle between Governor Fubara and Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
The rift resulted in a splintered House of Assembly, with 27 lawmakers defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), leading to parallel sittings, an attempted impeachment of the governor, and the demolition of the Assembly complex.
Notably, on Monday, Bola Tinubu facilitated a peace deal between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. The meeting, attended by both leaders, took place at the Aso Villa and included Tinubu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
