Umahi’s Brother Joins Ebonyi South Senatorial Race

Chief Austin Umahi, the younger sibling of former Governor Dave Umahi, has formally announced his candidacy for the impending Ebonyi South Senatorial bye-election set for February 2024.

The vacancy arose following Dave Umahi’s appointment as a minister in Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

Addressing reporters at a news briefing in Abakaliki on Monday, Austin confidently declared himself a leading contender in the race. He emphasized the importance of a genuine democratic process in determining a worthy senator for the district.

“I am committed to providing the best representation for the people, drawing on my extensive experiences in both business and politics,” he stated.

Highlighting his background in business and politics, Austin previously held the position of Director-General for the APC’s gubernatorial campaign during the 2023 elections.

Expressing his reliance on divine guidance, he remarked, “I am a mere instrument in the hands of God, and I believe He has more plans for me.”

In response to inquiries about zoning, Austin asserted that the senatorial seat is rightfully designated for his Ohaozara Local Government Area, following the decision of the APC’s Ebonyi zoning committee.

“I am not pursuing personal gains but advocating for the people,” he affirmed, urging a transparent election process that allows voters to choose their representative from a diverse pool of candidates.
