The Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Kwara Command, Aminu Shamsuddin, has issued a stern warning to officers under his command, urging them to steer clear of corruption, emphasizing that any personnel found engaging in bribery and corruption would face dismissal from the service.
Represented by the Deputy Comptroller of NIS, Momoh Aliyu, Shamsuddin delivered this message during the passing-out parade for newly recruited officers held in Ilorin on Wednesday. A total of 190 officers were officially inducted at the ceremony.
“Avoid bribes in the course of your duties. If you are caught in the act, you will be dismissed from the service,” cautioned Mr. Shamsuddin.
While extending congratulations to the new officers and welcoming them to the NIS, he urged them to exhibit submissiveness, good behavior, and loyalty to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Shamsuddin emphasized that the initial step in becoming an NIS officer is to undergo induction training to gain prior knowledge of the job.
The Comptroller mentioned that the new officers would be granted a two-week break before being deployed to various units. He provided details on the induction training, which commenced on September 5 in Ilorin, covering positions from Immigration Assistant 3 (IA3) to Assistant Inspector of Immigration (AII) and Assistant Superintendent of Immigration 2 (ASI 2).

Following the induction, the recruits will undergo further training at three Immigration Training Schools (ITS) across the country based on their ranks. Shamsuddin highlighted that after completing the training, they would receive certification, officially becoming full-fledged immigration officers. Some new officers were also recognized with awards of excellence for their performance during the training period.
