In response to the escalating violence in Plateau State, the Nigeria Police Force has unveiled a Special Operation Squad to address the security challenges.
During a condolence visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun announced the immediate deployment of this tactical unit, emphasizing its crucial role in curbing incessant attacks.
Egbetokun stated, “More deployment of our tactical unit will be made. We are deploying our tactical unit to assist you; we are deploying our intelligence unit. When you see the IGP visiting… you should know that we mean business.”
The IGP urged the cooperation of Plateau’s residents in the fight against criminals, emphasizing that collective efforts are essential for victory. He said, “With the cooperation of the people of Plateau, a solution is in sight. I want to appeal to the people of Plateau to cooperate with the security agencies, support them with information, and actively take part.”

Addressing the recent Christmas Eve attack in Bokkos that claimed over 190 lives, the IGP assured the public, “The IGP is in Plateau state to assess the security situation and ensure that the areas affected especially by the recent attacks are secured and protected from criminals.”
As a significant step, the special operation marks the commencement of the police’s broader plan to establish a Special Intervention Squad in pilot states. The IGP stressed, “This special operation will form the nucleus of our special intervention squad.”
