Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has revealed his plans to run for the position of Nigeria’s president in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
This announcement was made in a statement released through Daniel Bwala, spokesperson for the Presidential Campaign Organization of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023.
Despite experiencing previous unsuccessful attempts at the country’s top position, Bwala affirmed Atiku’s determination, stating that he will “surely contest” again.
“Sure, he [Atiku] would run,” Bwala told ChannelsTV.
“He has the capacity, he has the wisdom, he has the knowledge, he has the energy. And he is a president we never had.

“Because to be honest with you, if any politician understands the private sector very well, it is Abubakar and our economy can only come alive if there is a private sector-led economy,” he added.
The former Vice President, who has contested for the presidency six times in the past (1993, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023), aims to bring his wealth of experience to the forefront in the upcoming elections.
The announcement, however, comes amid internal turmoil within the PDP, with political observers attributing the party’s current crisis to Atiku’s persistent presidential ambitions.
