Labour Party to Challenge Enugu State Governorship Election Tribunal Judgement

The Labour Party and its candidate, Barr Chijioke Jonathan Edeoga, have announced their intention to challenge the judgement of the Enugu State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal. The judgement, delivered on Thursday, upheld the results of the March 18, 2023 Governorship elections in the state, which declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barr. Peter Mbah, as the winner.

In a statement released by the Edeoga/Nwokeabia Campaign Organisation, the Labour Party acknowledged the tribunal’s judgement but expressed readiness to appeal. “We wish to convey the acknowledgment by the Labour Party and its candidate, Chijioke Edeoga, of the judgement as delivered at the tribunal,” said Engr George Ugwu, Spokesman for the Edeoga/Nwokeabia Campaign Organisation. “We state our preparedness to challenge the outcome of this judgement at the Court of Appeal and to all extents as permitted by law.”

The statement further urged supporters across the state and in other parts of the country to remain calm and law-abiding. “We urge our supporters across the state and in other parts of the country to remain calm, law-abiding, and to go about their businesses without fear or hindrance,” Ugwu added.

The Labour Party remains confident in their pursuit of justice and is committed to ensuring that the hopes of Enugu people who voted for Labour Party candidates on March 18, 2023 are realised.
