The recent meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian president Vladimir Putin has sparked fear among world leaders. Kim Jong Un met with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on September 13, to discuss the possibility of supplying Russia with more weaponry for its war against Ukraine, experts report.
In exchange for the artillery supplied, the Russian government is reportedly expected to provide North Korea with advanced technology for satellites and nuclear-powered submarines.
This alliance for artillery exchange between the two countries has sparked concerns among leaders, one of which is South Korean leader Yoon Suk Yeol.
President Yoon Suk Yeol has warned the United Nations of potential arms deals between Russia and North Korea.
President Yoon fears that North Korea receiving the necessary technology to improve its weapons of mass destruction would be a direct provocation to the South, as they happen to share a boundary.
The South Korean president, speaking at the UN General Debate in New York, condemned North Korea for violating UN Council sanctions, alluding to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
President Yoon said South Korea and its allies would not stand by idly.
