Morris Monye, who previously served as the political adviser to the 2023 Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Delta State e-Sports Association.
The announcement of Monye’s appointment was made by Mr. Yahaha Maikori, the President of the Nigerian E-Sports Association, on Saturday, January 6th, 2024.
In a statement made available to Vanguard, Monye expressed his belief that e-sports holds the potential to empower and actively involve the youth population in Delta State.
He said, “ I have the utmost belief that together we will take the message of e-sports to the deepest parts of the state, engage and empower young people, and ultimately make Nigeria a global power in e-sports.”
Monye “Vows to engage youths and use this to pull youths from poverty.”

Prior to his designation, Morris Monye had distinguished himself as a shrewd entrepreneur, community leader, and political adviser to Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the gubernatorial candidate of the party in Lagos.
The appointment of Monye in the burgeoning billion-dollar e-sports industry is seen as a potential catalyst for economic revitalization in Delta state, aligning with Governor Oborevwori’s efforts to diversify the state’s economy.
