In response to the growing concern over counterfeit drinks circulating in clubs and restaurants across Lagos State, the Special Adviser to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr Idris Aregbe, has issued a stern warning against the sale and distribution of fake drinks.
The advisory, conveyed through Aregbe’s Instagram page, emphasized the significant threat posed by fake drinks to public health and safety.
Aregbe called upon all entertainment centers, including clubs and restaurants, to exercise due diligence in ensuring they do not purchase or serve counterfeit drinks to unsuspecting consumers.
He stated, “We call upon all clubs, restaurants and public places where drinks are sold to exercise due diligence in ensuring they do not purchase or serve fake drinks to unsuspecting consumers.”
He assured the public of a comprehensive effort, involving collaboration with relevant authorities such as the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Lagos State Safety Commission led by Mr Lanre Mojola.
The Special Adviser outlined stringent measures, including the immediate closure and suspension of operating licenses for any entertainment venue found serving or selling fake drinks. The objective is to safeguard the well-being of both Lagos residents and visitors.
Aregbe disclosed ongoing collaboration with various agencies to ensure full compliance and eradicate the circulation of fake drinks in the market.
