Samson James, 28, and Jonathan Edwards, 26, were, on Tuesday, brought before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court, facing charges of criminal conspiracy and theft for allegedly stealing food items worth N215,000.
The accused, residents of Sabon Tasha, Kaduna, were accused of committing the offense on January 4 at Ungwan Boro, Kaduna.
Inspector Chidi Leo, the prosecutor, informed the court that on the mentioned date, the defendants, along with two others who are currently at large, unlawfully took foodstuffs from Benita Okoro’s shop.
The stolen items included four bags of semovita, two bags of rice, five cartons of noodles, two 25-litre gallons of soybean oil, and four cartons of Maggi seasoning, totaling N215,000 in value.
Leo elaborated that the accused, Samson James and Jonathan Edwards, were apprehended by vigilant residents and subsequently handed over to the police.

“The stolen items were also recovered from them in the course of investigation,” he said.
He mentioned that the violations violated the provisions of sections 233 and 217 of the 2017 Penal Code of Kaduna State.
The accused individuals entered a plea of not guilty to the accusation.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel approved bail for the defendants, setting it at N200,000 each, along with two sureties each, also required to provide the same amount.
The stipulation was that the sureties must live within the court’s jurisdiction and possess a dependable source of income. Emmanuel scheduled the next hearing for February 2.
