The Kogi State House of Assembly has voiced its alarm over the escalating insecurity issues, confirming the abduction of six individuals in the Yagba East Local Government Area over the past three weeks.
Emmanuel Obaro, the representative for Yagba East in the Kogi State House of Assembly, brought this to light on Tuesday when he proposed a motion of urgent public importance during a house session in Lokoja.
Obaro, uncertain about the current status of the abducted victims, noted that kidnapping and armed robbery are increasingly becoming prevalent in his constituency.
He added that the kidnapping incidents are causing a domino effect, instilling fear and uncertainty in the communities of Yagba East Local Government, and posing a threat to individuals and families.
He stated, “I am aware that in the last three weeks, six different cases of attacks, leading to loss of lives, that are likened to banditry are reported. Other cases of attacks in the form of kidnapping are on the rise. These attacks are affecting businesses already and dissipating the resources of the vulnerable poor victims.
“It is my desire that measures be taken by this honourable House to address these issues and ensure that people can live their lives without fear of violence and victimisation.”
The assembly members urged the state government to probe the rising incidents of armed robbery and kidnapping, identify the culprits, their methods, and areas of operation, and put a stop to these activities.
