Arewa Group Threatens Mass Protests, Calls for Interior Minister’s Suspension Over Alleged Fraud

The Arewa Consultative Movement (ACM) is set to unleash widespread protests in Kaduna and Abuja, demanding the suspension of Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The ACM National Coordinator, Comrade Bilal Galadima, emphatically urged action, citing the minister’s alleged involvement in a staggering N438.1 million fraud linked to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.

Galadima, in an open letter, accused Tunji-Ojo of an “abuse of office” and insisted on compliance with established rules. The controversy centers around a contract awarded to New Planet Project Limited, a company purportedly associated with the minister. Galadima asserted, “We strongly believe that Minister Tunji Ojo’s actions are in direct violation of the Nigerian Constitution and the Code of Conduct law.”

The company in question, registered in 2009 with Tunji Ojo and his wife listed as directors, received the hefty payment for consultancy services related to cash transfers and social investment programs. Over 50 groups are poised to join the mass protests, scheduled for Friday and Monday.

Tunji-Ojo, responding to the allegations, claimed to have resigned as a director of New Planet Project Limited five years ago. He presented a Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) document during a program, asserting, “I founded the company about 15 years ago but resigned as its director after my election in 2019.”
