2024: ‘Emilokan’ Has Failed; it Won’t Work in Ondo Guber Poll—APC, Others Warned

The Ondo Redemption Front (ORF), a pressure group, has expressed its stance against the ‘Emilokan’ slogan in the Ondo governorship election, cautioning against any attempt to impose candidates.

The ‘Emilokan’ slogan, popularized by then-APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu during the buildup to the February 25, 2023, poll, is deemed ineffective by the ORF.

In a press conference held in Akure on Thursday, the group emphasized that the key to a prosperous Ondo lies in electing a competent and visionary leader.

Ayo Ologun, the chairman of the group, asserted that the governorship election provides Ondo residents with an opportunity to select leaders who can guide the state towards sustained development.

“Nobody should see the coming election as a right. The ‘Emilokan’ mindset will not work or be tolerated in the forthcoming election. The people of the state will not be swayed by mundane things that stem from propaganda,” said Mr. Ologun.

He expressed the group’s dedication to promoting positive change and highlighted their initiation of extensive efforts to mobilize significant citizen involvement leading up to the state’s gubernatorial election, aiming to empower the public through information dissemination.

Acknowledging the significance of cooperation with diverse stakeholders in the electoral process, Mr. Ologun emphasized that the group intends to conduct outreach and dialogues, fostering discussions on matters crucial to the electorate.

“We will bring the aspirants to face the people and talk to their plans and how much they understand Ondo State and her needs” and help would-be voters not to be swayed “by vote buyers and businessmen marauding as politicians without any iota of love for the people,” said Mr Ologun.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had set November 16 as the date for the Ondo governorship election.
