The All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to the Supreme Court’s rulings on eight state governorship election petitions issued today.
In a statement released on Friday, the party has advocated for peace and criticized its main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for what it termed as “senseless, irresponsible, reckless, and unjustified attacks mounted against the Judiciary throughout this electoral cycle.”
The rulings, which followed months of legal battles post the 2023 elections, brought a mix of outcomes for the APC. While celebrating victories in Lagos, Ebonyi, and Cross River states, the party faced setbacks in Kano, Zamfara, Bauchi, Plateau, and Abia.
Party spokesperson Felix Morka expressed, “We welcome the Supreme Court decisions with equanimity. These final and binding decisions affirm the authority, vibrancy, and independence of the Judiciary.”
The APC emphasized its longstanding commitment to respecting the judicial process, in contrast to what it alleged as the PDP’s criticism of earlier unfavorable rulings.
Morka stated, “The decisions today rebuke those political figures who denigrated the courts. The PDP, if it possesses any shred of decency, should apologize to the Judiciary for its irresponsible attacks throughout this electoral cycle.”
“We congratulate the winners, particularly our Governors, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, and Bassey Otu of Cross River State, and wish them the very best as they continue to serve their states and country. We urge everyone to remain calm and continue to maintain the peace,” the party added.
