LP Gubernatorial Candidate Pledges Increased Women’s Participation, Infrastructure Development

Senator Athan Nneji Achonu, the Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming November 11 election in Imo State, has made a series of ambitious pledges during his campaign.

Not only has he committed to increasing women’s participation in his government from 35% to 45%, but he also promises significant infrastructural development for Owerri North and the entire Imo State.

During a local government campaign tour in Owerri North council area, Achonu expressed his disappointment at the current state of the region. Despite its proximity to the municipality, he lamented that Owerri North still has the look of a “glorified village”. In response to this, Achonu pledged to transform the local government area to its rightful status as part of the Owerri Capital Territory with befitting infrastructure for a modern city.

Furthermore, Achonu outlined his plans for industrialisation across Imo State. He promised to establish an industrial processing zone in each of the 27 local governments in order to create meaningful jobs for the people of Imo. He envisions a future where people outside Imo State could come here for jobs and employment.

In terms of power supply, Achonu assured that he will ensure electricity is available everywhere in Imo State within his first year in office. He also plans to build two industrial parks in each of the three senatorial zones of Imo State, which he believes will create massive job opportunities for Ndi Imo.

Lastly, Achonu pledged to uphold local government autonomy and conduct free and fair local government elections within six months in office.
