Former lawmaker and chief of staff to the Edo State governor, Patrick Obayagbon, has expressed his admiration and endorsement for Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election.
Replying to a tweet on X by @MissPearls, Obayagbon, who is known for his use of big and obscure words, praised Obi as an example of self-sacrifice, moral purity, strict discipline, intellectual prowess, honest integrity, and generous spirit—qualities that he said are needed for the national revival that Nigerians desperately seek.
The tweet has generated mixed reactions from Nigerians, with some applauding Obayagbon for his eloquence and support for Obi, while others mock him for his bombastic and incomprehensible language.
Peter Obi is a 62-year-old businessman and former governor of Anambra State who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party in May 2022.
He emerged as a powerful force ahead of the February 2023 election, energising young voters with messages of prudence and accountability.
However, the 2023 election was shrouded in controversy. The veracity of the results was called into question, culminating in a legal showdown in the Supreme Court.
Bola Tinubu of the APC was initially declared the victor, but this proclamation was contested by both Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.
Despite their appeals, the Supreme Court upheld Tinubu’s victory.
