A Baltimore County Circuit Court in the United States, presided over by Theresa Adams, has awarded a record $50,000 in damages against Funke Ashekun, a US-based Nigerian blogger, for defaming the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) and its General Overseer, Prof. Daniel Olukoya.
Collins Edomaruse, the media aide to Prof. Olukoya, conveyed this information in a statement provided to TRIBUNE ONLINE on Thursday.
The jury determined that Ms. Ashekun’s posts had defamed the Mountain of Fire and portrayed its pastors inaccurately. The court, with Case Number: C-03-CV-22-004424, returned a unanimous verdict in favor of Mountain of Fire USA and its three pastors, Grace Ugeh, Kunle Ladipo, and Adekunle Adekola.
Ashekun, a Nigerian lady who recently relocated to the United States, has been using social media to spread false information about the MFM Church and its General Overseer. Her actions were geared toward tarnishing the reputation of the respected Man of God and his ministry.
Despite being urged to reconsider her destructive mission and heed godly counsel, she persisted in her efforts. The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (U.S) successfully pursued its claims against her within a year.
The outcome is considered a victory for the MFM ministry, its local pastors, and the General Overseer. Gilbert Garcia, the lead counsel for the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry, expressed gratitude, stating, “The Church was gratified that the jury found in favor and vindicated our position.”
