During Tuesday’s plenary session, Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, urged Bola Tinubu to dismiss underperforming cabinet members.
Abbas also emphasized the necessity of implementing fresh strategies to combat the pervasive insecurity plaguing the nation, warning that if left unaddressed, it could jeopardize the country’s stability.
Highlighting the ongoing, unabated security challenges despite previous efforts, the speaker stressed the urgency of adopting innovative approaches to address the situation effectively.
He emphasized that conventional methods, relied upon for an extended period, are no longer adequate for tackling evolving security threats.
The Speaker observed that despite the implementation of numerous measures to address it, the security situation in the country has continued without improvement.

“The threats of insurgency are severely testing the peace and stability of our country, the rise in kidnapping for ransom and the unsettling unrest and crises across all the six geo-political zones. Families and communities have endured immense hardships, and our hearts go out to all those affected by these tumultuous events,” he said.
Abbas conveyed deep sorrow regarding the tragic killings of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar and Folorunsho Ariyo by kidnappers, the Plateau massacre, which resulted in the loss of over 100 lives, and the victims of the recent explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Moreover, the Speaker urged Tinubu to demand enhanced performance and accountability from our service chiefs and all security and enforcement agencies.
He told Tinubu not to avoid making tough decisions, emphasizing that if necessary, changes within our security apparatus must be implemented without hesitation, as the consequences of inaction are too grave to bear.
