The Cameroon Football Federation’s Executive Committee has turned down Samuel Eto’o’s resignation as president, despite allegations of misconduct, match-fixing, and corruption against him.

Eto’o, a four-time Africa Player of the Year winner, had initially offered to step down during a meeting in Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon, where the committee gathered to review the national team’s performance at the Africa Cup of Nations.

At the outset of the meeting, Eto’o expressed his intention to resign and urged other committee members to follow suit in a spirit of cooperation.

No other decisions or conclusions were mentioned by the federation in the statement. Cameroon coach Rigobert Song’s future was uncertain following a dismal Africa Cup campaign.

Cameroon, the five-time winner, required a win in their final group game to advance to the group stage, scored late to do so, and was then eliminated by Nigeria after a disappointing performance in the round of 16.

Eto’o, who celebrated with the team following their thrilling win against Gambia in their last group game, has faced corruption claims in the past year.
