The Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS has reported the rescue of three victims of human trafficking in Jigawa state. Mr. Samson Agada, the NIS Comptroller in the state, made this announcement during a news conference held in Dutse on Wednesday.
According to Agada, NIS personnel intercepted the victims on Tuesday around 11:00 AM at the Tsamiyar Ilu checkpoint in Kazaure Local Government Area. The rescued individuals, identified as Ahmed Ibrahim (25), Ibrahim Rafatu (17), and Nafisat Jibril (32), all hail from Kogi state. They were apprehended alongside a suspected trafficker named Mustapha Zulqarlaini.

Upon interrogation, the victims confessed that they were en route to Daura area in Katsina State, intending to cross the Nigerian border into Niger Republic, with the ultimate destination being Libya, where they planned to join their sister. Zulqarlaini, the suspected trafficker, claimed to be the victim’s uncle and admitted to facilitating their journey from Kano to Daura.
Agada emphasized that the victims’ parents consented to the journey due to extreme poverty, highlighting them as victims of human trafficking. Consequently, the NIS will hand them over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
The comptroller urged parents and guardians to closely monitor their wards to prevent them from falling prey to traffickers. He reiterated the NIS’s commitment to combating irregular migration and human trafficking.
