Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has issued a prohibition on the sale and transportation of food items and agricultural produce in large quantities from the state to other regions of Nigeria.
Bago made this declaration during a press conference, emphasizing that the bulk sale of food items has led to shortages and hunger within the state.
The governor said, “Trucks who come to pack or buy foodstuffs from our villagers in bulk should be halted for now. We have stopped mass purchases from our local markets, all our local governments, from now henceforth.
“Anybody found doing that, we have given some security agencies go ahead to confiscate those trucks and share the food to the people.”
This is occurring amidst the economic challenges that Nigerians are currently enduring.
The depreciation of the Naira has led to a significant increase in the prices of food items nationwide, exacerbating the hardship experienced by the populace.
