Concerning the problem of economic hardship in the nation, the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) has called for social dialogue to resolve the issue between the federal government and organised Labour.

NECA made the appeal during a meeting with other stakeholders on Tuesday in Abuja to talk about methods for promoting fair and unbiased labour dispute resolution as well as fostering cordial employer-employee relationships.

The President of NECA, Taiwo Adeniyi, stated that “Both domestic and international labour organisations have recognised the importance of social dialogues and alternative dispute resolution procedures (like mediation, adjudication, or arbitration) in maintaining industry harmony.”

According to Adeniyi, the core principles of these systems are impartiality, transparency, and adherence to legal frameworks, all of which are upheld by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and labour laws.

He emphasised that in order to enhance industrial harmony in the nation, social discourse involving employers, employees, and the government must be continuously engaged.

“As the President of NECA, I can assure you that employers will always be committed to fostering a harmonious and peaceful work environment. We truly think that a robust economy and the development of a stable and prosperous country depend on the maintenance of a positive employer-employee relationship,” he said.

Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, on her part, praised NECA’s partnership with the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) and other relevant parties for tackling the urgent problems related to labour adjudication and arbitration and for encouraging communication amongst partners to advance harmonious labour relations and improve cooperation.

“Participants, I urge you to approach the panel session with seriousness, recognising the importance of social dialogue and tripartism in strengthening democracy, social justice, and sustainable economic development. Let’s engage in open dialogue to create comprehensive solutions.
