Fubara Nominates Nwabali for State Award, Gifts Him N20 Million

On Friday evening, Governor Siminalayi Fubara hosted Super Eagles Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali and Rivers Hoopers at Rivers State Government House.

In a ceremony held at the Executive Council Chambers, Governor Fubara announced a substantial cash gift of N20 million to goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, hailing from the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area, in acknowledgment of his outstanding performance.

Additionally, the governor nominated Nwabali for the prestigious state award, Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State (DSSRS), reserved for individuals who have excelled in their field, akin to high-profile politicians including serving and former governors.

The Super Eagles’ entourage, graced by Coach Jose Peseiro and Finidi George, were equally honored with a cash reward of N30 million for their commendable efforts at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Ivory Coast.

Further demonstrating his commitment to sports excellence, Governor Fubara bestowed a generous sum of N50 million upon Rivers Hoopers, the triumphant State Basketball Team, for clinching the National Basketball League championship title.

Governor Fubara commended Stanley Nwabali, a native of Rivers State, for his stellar goalkeeping contributions to the Super Eagles’ success at AFCON, underscoring the pride he has brought to Nigeria.

“I want to join the great and wonderful people of Rivers State to congratulate you, our brother Stanley Nwabali and our wonderful team. We are here again in just about four months after your winning a local trophy.

“Today, you have brought a national trophy. So, when people say or talk behind to ask what we are doing, we are achieving those things that are not, maybe, seen physically but they give joy and fulfilment.

“If we have not encouraged you in a way that motivated you, you won’t be where you are. So, it is part of purposeful governance, administrative efficiency. So, I want to thank you and assure you that we will continue to do our best,” Fubara said.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Fubara expressed gratitude to the people of Rivers State and emphasized the importance of fostering a positive environment that promotes excellence and garners honor for the state.

He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to creating conducive conditions for Rivers people to excel and contribute positively to the state’s global reputation.
