Former employees of X, previously known as Twitter, stationed in the African headquarters in Accra, Ghana, have received their severance pay over a year after being dismissed, according to their representing agency.
The majority of the affected employees had only recently joined the company when they were terminated in November 2022. They had threatened legal action against X previously known as Twitter for not fulfilling promised redundancy payments.
While X has not stated the matter, it had previously claimed to have compensated former employees fully.

Under the leadership of Elon Musk, who assumed control of the company in 2022, a significant global downsizing occurred, resulting in over 6,000 job cuts. Musk cited daily losses of over $4 million as the reason for the layoffs.
The African workforce, comprising fewer than 20 individuals, had recently transitioned to X’s new Accra office after nearly eight months of remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Agency Seven Seven, responsible for legal representation, confirmed the successful negotiation of redundancy settlements and repatriation expenses for foreign staff, without disclosing the specific payout amount.
Carla Olympio from Agency Seven Seven expressed the employees’ relief in finally receiving their entitlements and expressed optimism for their future endeavours.
In previous interviews, former staffers lamented the adverse impact of X’s actions on their mental well-being and finances, describing the experience of being owed money by the world’s wealthiest individual as challenging and unsettling.
