JUST IN: Edo Assembly Files Impeachment Notice to Governor Obaseki’s Deputy, Philip Shaibu

The Edo State House of Assembly has issued an impeachment notice to Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, a move likely linked to his ongoing dispute with Governor Godwin Obaseki, particularly following Shaibu’s defeat in the recent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial primary elections in the state.

He had previously voiced concerns about a purported plan to impeach him from office, attributing the motive to his gubernatorial aspirations.

Amidst these tensions, Shaibu’s election during a parallel primary held at his residence in Benin City contrasts with Asue Ighodalo’s victory in another PDP primary conducted at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

The embattled deputy governor expressed his apprehensions, stating, “Even as we speak, my team has been calling me that, ‘Look at what these people are doing’.

“They are saying they are going to impeach you, that you have gotten too far.’ They are threatening to impeach me.”
