RMAFC Chairman Calls Upon Nigerians to Pay Taxes on Time

To increase income production in the nation, Alhaji Muhammed Shehu, Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), has called upon Nigerians to pay their taxes on time. Shehu made the decision during a Tuesday interview in Abuja with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Additionally, he advised private business owners and Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to make payments to the Federal Government’s coffers as and when they are due in order to avoid penalties.

According to Shehu, tax income would be used to improve services and build out the nation’s infrastructure for the benefit of all its residents. The chairman stated that just around 40 million Nigerians pay taxes while reiterating the need to broaden the country’s tax base.

He claims that this is inadequate for a nation with such a large population.

”The Federal Government and tiers of the federation are concerned with how to make more revenue by blocking leakages,” he said.

Shehu noted that the 63rd Independence Day anniversary of Nigeria was an important turning point in the nation’s history as he thought back on its years of existence. He urged Nigerians to reflect on the nation’s achievements and challenges since it gained independence.
