Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has vehemently denied allegations of misappropriating local government funds, stating firmly, “There is no truth in that. You know it is not possible.” Otti addressed concerns during his monthly media chat with Abia people at the Government House, Umuahia.

“We don’t operate in a system where snakes and rats swallow money,” Otti asserted, challenging accusers to provide concrete evidence. He emphasized that a task force had been deployed to apprehend those perpetrating such vandalism, warning of prosecution through mobile courts.

Going further, Otti also condemned the nefarious activities of individuals damaging public property in Aba. He singled out the destructive practice of dismantling gutters’ slabs and selling off the rods as scraps, branding it a “criminal act.”

In a bid to foster accountability, Otti defended the installation of work attendance recording devices in local governments. He emphasized that civil servants failing to record above 70% attendance would forfeit their monthly salaries.

Highlighting educational reforms, Otti outlined initiatives to modernize the curriculum, incorporating subjects like artificial intelligence. He revealed plans to remodel 170 primary schools and 51 secondary schools in the coming year.

Amid these developments, Otti reassured the public that efforts were underway to address salary delays affecting certain civil servants. Currently, 66,000 civil servants are receiving their salaries promptly in the state.

The announcement of infrastructure projects and measures to enhance accountability marks Otti’s proactive approach to governance, signaling his administration’s dedication to improving the lives of Abia residents.
