Members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational Associated Institutions (NASU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAATS) from the University of Lagos are currently engaged in a peaceful protest at the school’s entrance.
According to reports from Punch, the striking workers have blocked vehicular movement, causing disruption to traffic flow in the vicinity.
They have also been singing and displaying various placards to express their grievances with the Federal Government concerning their withheld salaries.
For approximately one month, the leadership of SSANU and NASU has been urging the government to address their exclusion from the payment of withheld salaries.
This withholding of salaries began in February when the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari implemented a ‘No Work, No Pay policy’ against ASUU, SSANU, and NAATS.
These unions had embarked on strikes lasting eight months, four months, and five-and-a-half months, respectively, in 2022.
In solidarity, NAATS has also commenced a three-day warning strike today, joining the ongoing protests.
