Former Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, has refuted claims that he has been receiving pension from the state government since he left office.

The assertion comes in response to reports suggesting that his pension, among others, was halted by the Alex Otti-led administration in the state.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Onyebuchi Ememanka, Ikpeazu clarified that he has not received any pension from the Abia State government since his tenure ended on May 29th, 2023.

He emphasized that neither has he requested nor received any funds under any guise from the state government.

The statement further discredited the reports linking Ikpeazu to ongoing pension benefits for former governors, labeling them as sponsored attempts to tarnish his reputation. It emphasized Ikpeazu’s focus on other pursuits beyond politics since leaving office.

The statement released by the Ikpeazu’s spokesman stated, “Former Governor Ikpeazu has since moved on with his life and is currently engaged in other areas of interest to him and advises the Abia State Government and her various organs to face the business of governance and desist from engaging in needless media sensationalism.

“The general public should be properly guided, please,” the statement added.
