The deadlock persists between the Federal Government and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Allied Institutions (NASU) following a failed agreement in their recent meeting.
Muhammed Ibrahim, the National President of SSANU, affirmed that the strike would persist, stating, “Strike continues,” in response to the outcome of the meeting.
SSANU and NASU initiated a seven-day nationwide strike to protest the Federal Government’s withholding of their four-month salaries from 2021 due to a previous strike, adhering to the principle of ‘No work; no pay’ under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Despite the current administration led by Chief Bola Tinubu ordering the release of withheld salaries for members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), SSANU and NASU expressed discontent for being excluded from this decision.

In their demand letter to the Tinubu government, they requested the release of their withheld salaries, which went unheeded, leading to their decision to embark on the strike.
The strike action, which began on Monday, effectively halted academic activities across university campuses nationwide.
