Remi Tinubu, the wife of former Lagos State governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has lamented over the exodus of Nigerians seeking employment abroad that they refuse to consider while in the country.
She said this during a recent interview with Arise TV.
Remi Tinubu argued that it’s impractical for the government to provide sustenance for every citizen, citing the challenge of distinguishing between the economically disadvantaged and the affluent.
“Nigerians can help each other. The rate at which we go to parties, do weddings and all that. Why can’t you use the money to help your neighbour until we can really get on our feet? Those are the things we have to look at. It’s not that the government has to meet all the needs.
“I believe in social development for people who truly need it. And in the Bible, in the time of Jesus, you will always have the poor in the land. And it is for people whom God has blessed to help the poor. But now, you don’t even know who is poor.
“If they don’t have a car or house, they will say they are poor. Even all those people who say they japa, they go their to get work they refuse to do at home, where they have loved ones, even with their education,” she said.
