Section of Onitsha Market Consumed by Raging Fire
Onitsha, Anambra State

A fire broke out on Thursday midnight, engulfing a portion of the Ogbọ Osisi Market, commonly known as the plank market, situated at the Onitsha Head Bridge in Anambra State.

At the time of reporting, the cause of the fire remained unknown.

Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, stating that police personnel, led by a divisional police officer, were actively engaged in addressing the situation. Additionally, he noted the assistance provided by altruistic individuals in extinguishing the fire.

“Our operatives, led by the DPO, and some good-spirited individuals are trying their best to put out the fire.

“Meanwhile, the Fire Service has been contacted, and the situation is being monitored.

“For now, there is no record of loss of life, and the worth of property destroyed has not yet been determined.

“Further details shall be communicated as the operation is still ongoing,” he said.
