Afe Babalola: A Farmer at Heart

Afe Babalola, an elder statesman and legal luminary, revealed his enduring passion for farming in a shocking revelation in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

The 94-year-old founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), said during the opening ceremony of the 2023 annual edition of Afe Babalola Agric Expo (ABAEX-2023) in Ado-Ekiti that if there was anything like life after death, his desire would be to return to life as a farmer.

If properly pursued, farming is the most lucrative and energising vocation, according to Babalola. He added that farming is the only occupation associated with creation and that it is an act of God. He emphasised that any nation sincere about progress and prosperity must first embrace agriculture.

Babalola also discussed his own history with farming, saying he grew up around it and found it to be enjoyable. He boasted that he raises everything that is eaten in his home; nothing comes from the market.

Babalola’s assertion illustrates both his love of farming and the significance of agriculture in a country’s prosperity. Many people are encouraged by his statements to embrace farming and support the development of the country.
