Passerby Crushed to Death Over Truck Brake Failure in Lagos

A yet-be-identified woman has been crushed to death by a truck in the Abule-Egba area of Lagos State.

The tragic incident, which occurred on Monday, was confirmed in a statement by the spokesperson of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq.

Adebayo noted that preliminary investigations revealed that the cement mixer truck was on a high speed when it lost control as a result of a brake failure.

He added that the driver tried to swerve into a drainage channel in a bid to control the situation but unfortunately crushed the deceased in the process.

“The trapped body was evacuated underneath the Dangote truck by Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and immediately handed over to policemen from Oko-Oba Police Station,” Adebayo explained in the statement.

He disclosed further that the driver was apprehended by LASTMA officials, adding that a team of policemen from Oko-Oba Police Station provided security backup during rescue operations.

“LASTMA Abdul Salam Nurudeen (Alpha, Zone 19 Abule-Egba/Tollgate) who led the recovery operations confirmed that his team was supported by other road sympathizers to remove the trapped dead body.

“The General Manager of LASTMA Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki however warned truck owners/drivers to always ensure their trucks are properly checked including the braking system before embarking on any journey within or outside Lagos,” the statement concluded.
