The Socioeconomic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has taken legal action against Senate President Godswill Akpabio for his failure to recall Bauchi Central Senator Abdul Ningi.
SERAP has also filed a lawsuit against Akpabio for neglecting to refer budget padding allegations to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for prosecution.
Ningi had alerted to the disappearance of N3.7 trillion from the 2024 budget.
Consequently, he faced a three-month suspension from the Senate due to his inability to substantiate the padding claims. Activist lawyer Femi Falana urged the Senate to reinstate Ningi, a plea that remains unheeded.

His accusation resulted in a three-month suspension by the Senate after he failed to provide evidence to support the claim of budget padding.
Subsequent to his suspension, activist lawyer Femi Falana called on the Senate to restore Ningi, a request that remains unfulfilled.
However, SERAP posted on X: “BREAKING: We’ve sued the Senate President, Mr Godswill Akpabio over the failure to recall whistleblower Abdul Ningi, and to refer the alleged N3.7 trillion budget padding to the EFCC and ICPC for investigation and prosecution.”
