Iran’s armed forces’ chief of staff, Mohammad Bagheri, declared on Sunday that the drone and missile assault on Israel, launched in response to an attack on Iran’s consulate in Damascus, had achieved all its intended goals.
Bagheri, speaking to state TV, referred to the operation as “Operation Honest Promise” and stated that it had been successfully executed from the previous night into the morning, achieving its objectives.
Iran had characterized the attack on Israel as an act of self-defense following the strike on its diplomatic mission in Damascus on April 1, which was widely attributed to Israel.
The strike in Damascus destroyed the consular annexe of the Iranian embassy and resulted in the deaths of seven Revolutionary Guards, including two generals.
Bagheri asserted that the retaliatory strike targeted an “intelligence center” and the air base allegedly used by Israeli F-35 jets to launch the attack on the Damascus consulate.
“Both these centres were significantly destroyed and put out of order,” he said, though Israel maintains that the attack only resulted in minor damage.
“We see this operation as complete, and this operation has ended in our opinion,” Bagheri said.
“There is no intention to continue this operation,” he said, calling on Israel to avoid taking further action against Iran which according to Bagheri would result in a “much bigger” response.

The army chief also warned the United States against aiding any Israeli action against Iran.
“We sent a message to America through the Swiss embassy that if it cooperates with Israel in their next potential actions, their bases will not be secure,” he added.
