The 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has announced plans to tackle the water crisis in Nigeria with the launch of the “BoreholeChallenge”.
This statement comes in the wake of the provision of boreholes by Obi in the northern region of Nigeria.
While his efforts in the northern region are commendable, it has prompted inquiries from other regions if similar interventions will reach them.
When asked if it was what he planned to do in the coming times, obi stated, ” I was doing this because of the Ramadan fast; it was in visiting people, supporting them with food, and other things that they requested for this.”
He continued, “But I assure you, before the month ends, we’ll come up with what we call a challenge because in doing this, we’re actually solving lots of problems. We will come up with a “BoreholeChallenge“. There are so many things we can do to solve lots of problems.”
Obi’s announcement comes at a critical time when many communities in Nigeria continue to grapple with inadequate access to clean water, leading to various health and sanitation challenges. With the ‘BoreholeChallenge’, Obi hopes to inspire collective action and foster positive change in addressing this pressing issue.
