Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has clarified his stance on the governance of the state, expressing disinterest in being referred to as a political godfather and emphasizing his minimal involvement in state affairs since leaving office.
Speaking during an event in Borno State on Monday, April 15, El-Rufai revealed that he has only visited Kaduna five times since stepping down almost a year ago.
El-Rufai stated, “I don’t want to be a godfather and that’s why I don’t interfere in what is happening in Kaduna, I want him (the governor) to learn and get the job by himself,” El-Rufai announced.
“What we lack is good leadership, the majors aspects of good quality of leadership. The leader should get good people to get the job done.
“Only God can do everything by himself, no matter how good you are as a leader, you can be as effective as people around you and that’s why the saying that no country get better than the quality of his civil services,” he added.
Governor Uba Sani, El-Rufai’s successor, recently accused the former governor of leaving the state in significant debt, making it challenging to meet salary obligations.
It was reported that during his tenure as a senator, Sani advocated for loan proposals by El-Rufai, which were approved by the upper legislative chamber.
