The Kaduna State College of Education Retirees Association has once again urged state governor Uba Sani to make sure that their gratuities and pensions are paid on time.
The appeal was included in a statement that was jointly signed by the association’s chairman and secretary, Bulus Kajang and Emmanuel Nkom, and was made available over the weekend in Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government Area.
They also requested a meeting with the governor so they could discuss their situation with him and give remedies for the ongoing hardship they have been experiencing for more than seven years.
The association revealed, “We wrote a letter to him in July to intimate him about how prompt benefits were paid to retirees and how the unwarranted delay in the remittance of our entitlements has exposed us to untold hardship after giving our most productive years in service.”
They also explained that the members of the association have been facing unnecessary hardships, considering the hike in the economy in Nigeria at this time. The communique reads, “Most of our members cannot meet their basic needs, such as medical or utility bills, or pay their children’s school fees, adding that they best fit the description of vulnerable persons and arguing that the government’s palliatives should be provided for them too.”
“The country’s dire economic situation was taking its toll on even those with means of income, and I added that it is worse on the retirees who have nothing to fall back on and begged the Governor to authorize payment of the long overdue entitlements.”
Governor Uba Sani was elected in the 2023 gubernatorial election under the umbrella of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and started his service on May 29, 2023.
